UX WRITING FOR SELF-ASSESSMENT TOOL
THE CHALLENGE
BPTN wanted to create a tool to help tech companies assess and improve their support for Black professionals, especially in response to the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on Black communities. The challenge was to design a self-assessment tool that could communicate complex information, encourage reflection, and guide companies in understanding and addressing anti-Black racism in their organizations.
THE STRATEGY
To make the self-assessment tool intuitive and impactful, I focused on using clear, accessible language that guided users through each section. The content was structured to help users navigate key areas of improvement, such as mentorship, training, and diversity initiatives, and presented as "elements" to create a memorable, structured framework. This approach made the process feel less daunting and more actionable, encouraging users to engage thoughtfully with each assessment area.
THE SOLUTION
The final design provided a user-friendly experience that combined simple instructional copy with an inviting layout, making the tool easy to navigate. Each section was represented as an element that allowed companies to assess their strengths and areas for growth in diversity, equity, and inclusion. The tool was also visually aligned with BPTN's brand, reinforcing the organization's mission to bridge gaps and foster inclusivity in tech.
